Launch of the '0 % alcohol during pregnancy and breastfeeding' campaign.
Alcohol consumption during pregnancy is the leading cause of non-genetic mental disorders in children in western countries.
No quantities or windows of time are risk-free during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Purpose
The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness of the scale and severity of this issue, and convey the message that it is 100 % avoidable.
Information materials
The '0 % alcohol during pregnancy and breastfeeding - the best decision for your baby! ' campaign comprises posters, a brochure in German and French, a recommendations guide for healthcare workers, a section on the www.sante.lu website, and posts on the 'Healthy & Friends' Facebook page. A fact sheet will also be included in maternity record books (carnet de maternité).
Distribution
These materials have been distributed to general practitioners and gynaecologists, midwives, maternity units, pharmacists and medical centres, as well as psycho-social medical associations working to protect the health and well-being of women and expectant mothers, such as Initiative Liewensufank, the Association of Born and Unborn Children asbl (Association pour la vie naissante asbl), the Family Planning Centre (Planning familial), the Health and Social Welfare League (Ligue médico-sociale) and the League for Mental Health (Ligue de santé mentale), etc.
