Yellow fever

Yellow fever is a serious and potentially fatal viral disease. The yellow fever virus is transmitted by infected mosquito bites. The virus is present in equatorial sub-Saharan African countries and in certain tropical regions of Central and South America.

Vaccination is the only way to protect yourself against this disease. This vaccine is mandatory for travellers to certain countries in Africa, Central America and South America.

Vaccination schedule

  • Vaccination: 1 injection at least 10 days before departure
  • Booster: every 10 years (if necessary)

Pregnant women, women wishing to have a child, immunocompromised individuals, children under 6 months of age and individuals allergic to eggs cannot be vaccinated against yellow fever.

Serious side effects, some of which are fatal, have been reported. This vaccine should only be administered to individuals travelling to areas where the virus is present.
